  • How to stay organized even when selling across multiple platforms (eBay, Mercari, anyone?)

We’ll get all those problems solved in this article for how to keep track of your Poshmark inventory.

First Things First

First things first…there are two parts to successfully keeping track of your Poshmark inventory.

First, you need a system to organize your reselling goods.

You need an easy, efficient way to store items. One that makes it quick to find what you’re looking for when it sells.

Second, you need a way to track your inventory (especially if you’re selling on other platforms like eBay).

Tracking Poshmark inventory is important not only for knowing what you have, but also how much you’re making off of each item.

We’ll talk more about each of these in depth….

Poshmark Inventory Storage Solutions

Okay, first the storage.

Yes, having inventory sitting around is part of selling on Poshmark. There’s just no way around it.

So, how are you supposed to store goods?

You need a specific place designated for your inventory.

You need a way to manage that inventory. One that is easy to do. It must also be quick to find your items.

You don’t want to spend hours searching through your inventory trying to find that one item. You should be able to pull a handful of items in just a few minutes.

If you’re selling on Poshmark, most likely your items are small enough to fit in boxes – so that’s where we’ll start….boxes!

Boxes For Poshmark Inventory Management

Clear boxes are a must for storing any kind of reselling inventory. They allow you to see what’s inside without having to dig through your items.

Here are some boxes I recommend.

They are all clear, are stackable, and have locking lids.

This is a standard size (pack of 4) that I recommend for clothing (more on that next):

If you’re selling items other than clothes, you might want to go with these bins that are a couple of inches deeper:

If you don’t have room for boxes like these, why not consider under-the-bed storage? These boxes are not only clear, but they have wheels for easy in and out:

How To Store Poshmark Clothes Properly

Alright, so now that you know what kind of boxes work best, there’s a trick when it comes to storing clothes in them.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT just stack your clothing items in piles in the boxes!

Why?

Because, what happens if something at the bottom sells? Then you have to dig all the way down to the bottom and possibly mess up all the folded items above it.

Instead, stand your items vertically (like putting files in a file cabinet).

Yes, there’s a trick to getting them to stand on end and it’s called the KonMari method of folding (from the book The Joy Of Tidying). You can watch a YouTube video on it here: The KonMari Fold | Basics – YouTube.

Once you’ve got your clothing items stored vertically in your boxes, it makes it simple to pull inventory when it sells.

Shelves For Managing Your eBay Inventory

Now that you’re organized with boxes, if you’ve got more than a few boxes, you’re going to want to invest in shelving.

Shelving helps you make use of vertical space. You can store a lot with just a small footprint when you go vertical with your storage.

Shelving also keeps you from having to stack your boxes and unstack every time something lower down sells.

Preferably, you want to get shelves that have wheels on the bottom.

That way, if you need to move your Poshmark inventory, it’s easy!

Shelves with wheels can also help you maximize your storage if you have more than one shelving unit.

This is one that has lots of room between shelves, perfect for your storage boxes:

This is another option that may eliminate the need for boxes (depending on what it is you are storing). This could possibly work well for shoes, handbags and other items that don’t fold:

If you don’t think you’ll be needing to shift shelves or move your shelving around, here are some good options that are fixed on the bottom:

Shoe Storage

If you’re going to be selling a lot of shoes, I recommend a shoe shelf versus throwing them in a box to get smashed.

This is an amazing invention for storing shoes dust free and easy to find! It comes in several sizes and holds up to 72 pairs:

If you’re looking for a cheaper shelving option for shoe storage, this one will do the job:

Other Items For Keeping Track Of Your Poshmark Inventory

Here are some other items related to keeping track of your Poshmark inventory.

Table For Folding/Processing Inventory:

I use this table on a daily basis! It folds down to a narrow size when not in use and has storage baskets for easy access to my supplies like lint rollers, measuring tape, and sweater shaver.

Garment Racks:

You don’t want to spend time steaming/ironing only to have your Poshmark clothes get wrinkled again!

A garment rack is great for temporary storage until items get photographed

You could also use them for storage, but folded items take up much less space.

Bags For Storage:

Many resellers use clear plastic bags for storing their Poshmark inventory while in boxes.

Here are a couple of options in sizes that work well for clothes, but they do come in lots of other sizes:

Tips For Storing Your Poshmark Inventory

Here are some tips for managing your Poshmark inventory that I’ve learned over the years:

  • There is no need for sorting like items. I don’t have boxes of just jeans or just tops.
  • Give all boxes a label (A-Z, 1-100, or whatever works for you)
  • Give each item a number or letter (whichever you are using) that corresponds to the box that it is in.
  • Enter the box number in the SKU field of Poshmark listing (will not show on the buyer’s end).
  • Folding is a much more efficient method of storing clothes than hanging. (You can store many more folded items in the same space). Plus, you are going to need to fold them anyways to ship.
  • You can pre-package items if you like, but it may be harder to find them. If you do, be sure the bags are clear so you don’t have to rely on unique inventory numbers.

Tracking Your Poshmark Inventory

So you’ve got the storage of your Poshmark inventory under control.

Now it’s time to keep track of that inventory.

If you’re selling on multiple platforms, this is especially important.

A cross-listing tool, like Vendoo, will also help you manage and track your reselling inventory – including profits.

Vendoo helps you cross post, manage, and track your inventory across 9 different platforms!

You can try Vendoo out free here, plus get 25% off your first month. (affiliate link)

Another option to keep track of your Poshmark inventory, is to use an inventory tracker.

An inventory tracker can help you track things like which boxes items are stored in and how much you make on each sale (and where the item sells if you’re selling on multiple platforms).

Ways To Use Reseller Inventory Trackers

There are basically two options for reseller inventory trackers.

You can track your inventory:

  • By hand (pen and paper)
  • With a spreadsheet

The pen and paper option is a good option if you aren’t great with technology or utilizing equations.

The spreadsheet option for your inventory tracker makes keeping track of your inventory quicker (not having to write!) and you can use equations to calculate your profits on each item, profit for the month, etc.

Poshmark Reseller Inventory Tracker: What You Need On It

Here’s what you may want to consider including on your Poshmark inventory tracker:

  • Date you purchased (or listed) the item
  • Where you purchased the item
  • How much you paid for the item
  • The platforms the item is listed on (if selling on more than one platform)
  • Where the item is located (which box in your inventory storage system)
  • Date of sale
  • Where the item sold
  • Calculated field for how long you had the item
  • How much the item sold for
  • Marketplace-based fees you paid
  • How much you paid for shipping, if any
  • Calculated field for net amount you made (sale minus what you paid for the item, fees, shipping, etc)

My Inventory Tracker (Spreadsheet & Printable)

If you’d rather not bother creating you’re own, I do have an option for you.

I’ve reviewed everything Amazon has to offer as far as inventory tracking/log books.

Nothing met my expectations, so I created my own – just for resellers!

I’ve included both a spreadsheet version (Google Sheets) as well as a printable PDF version.

The spreadsheet even includes calculated fields so you don’t have to do the math in your head!

There’s a sheet (tab) to track inventory and another sheet to track profits.

eBay Inventory Tracking Spreadsheet

I’m offering a limited time coupon code (HALFOFF). Just enter the code at checkout to get 50% off.

(Please note that you will need to enter an address at checkout for sales tax purposes only. Everything you receive is electronic. Nothing will be mailed.)

Conclusion To How To Keep Track Of Your Poshmark Inventory

I hope this post has helped take some of the overwhelm out of managing and keeping track of your Poshmark inventory!

You can stay organized! You can find those items quickly!

Once you’ve got a storage and tracking system in place, it’s easy to maintain and keep everything under control.
